Transformational Unfolding, (Jana L. Ekdahl, MA, LMHC)
is a psychotherapy practice that welcomes the transgender population. I
see MtF's, FtM's, crossdressers, partners/ significant others, couples,
and other gender variant individuals. I work with transgender adults
and adolescents. My adult trans-clients come with very similar stories to share about a troubled adolescence. Many were shamed into secrecy and afraid
to talk about their transgender selves. They felt completely alone,
with nowhere to turn. Unfortunately, people growing up in less
informed times lacked the support that young transgender individuals
today are now beginning to experience.
The
youth of today are indeed our future. I have had the rare privilege of
meeting and working with gender variant youth. They are changing the
face of gender for us
all. I sometimes view them as archetypal warriors on the cutting edge
of that space between the two polarities that we hold onto so tightly.
Perhaps it would serve us all to go to that place . . . that special
space-between genders . . . to see what we find there.
My
